While the industry was downcast and awash with gloom, struggling to survive local and global storms, the man, Victor, kept his forte. In the thick of the doldrums, he was invited to various industry fora where he presented papers, especially on Nigeria’s gas next frontier. He has received several prestigious local and international awards for his efforts and contributions in the oil value chain, most recent of which is the USAFRICA Best of Africa Award for Executive & Intellectual Leadership in Oil & Gas Matters in Nigeria, on July 7, 2017 in Houston, United States.
Sir Victor Okoronkwo has spent over 30 years in the Oil and Gas industry. He was with the Shell Group where he held various positions including, Power Asset Manager, Gas Commercial Manager, Gas and Power Business Development Manager, and General Manager, Gas.
Victor holds a B.Sc. in Surveying Engineering and an MBA. He is an alumnus of the ISEAD Business School and Oxford/Princeton College of Energy Studies.
Victor joined the AITEO Energy Group in 2015 the same year AITEO acquired 45% interest from Shell, Total and Agip in the prolific OML29 and the 97km 48” 600kbpd Nembe Creek Trunk Line (NCTL) in Nigeria’s Niger Delta, in what was considered the 2014 oil and gas “deal of the year” in sub-Saharan Africa.
At takeover of OML29 Assets, and the NCTL, total production from the asset was under 28kboe/d, but by November 2016, AITEO had achieved an enviable production peak of over 100kboe/d launching itself into the league of major oil and gas producers in Nigeria.
Victor play very active role in the Nigeria oil and gas sector and has held various key positions in the development of Natural Gas as key fuel for the Nigeria economy through the development of the Nigerian Gas Master Plan (NGMP).
He was pioneer Asset Manager of Afam Integrated Gas and Power Plant, generating 650MW of ca.18% of Nigeria’s total power generation. A council member of the Nigeria Gas Association and a board member, Gas Aggregation Company Nigeria Ltd, Victor has been a member of the Steering Committee of West Niger Delta Gas Central Processing Facility.
He was a Two-term Chair, the Gas Committee of the Oil Producers Trade Section (OPTS) as well as Head, Power Work Stream of OPTS that heralded the industry collaboration with Nigeria National Petroleum Company on the development of Nigeria Gas Master Plan (NGMP)
Still on awards, Sir Victor Okoronkwo holds several awards for philanthropic and community services. He is a recipient of the highly prestigious Ugwu-Aro Award, the highest honor from the ancient Arochukwu Kingdom only meritoriously bestowed on individuals of exceptional achievements in their chosen fields and the community.
A Knight of the St. Christopher (KSC) of the Anglican Communion, Sir Victor is married to Lady Ann Okoronkwo and blessed with children and a granddaughter.
